How to properly dispose of your medication

If you have any unused, unwanted, or expired medications, it’s important to dispose of them correctly. Properly disposing of your medications, as well as any equipment such as needles, is important for the health and safety of others.

The FDA and the DEA work together to provide registered drug disposal sites where patients can take their medications. You can find a registered drug disposal site near you by using the DEA’s directory here.

If there is no registered drug disposal site near you, the FDA provides specific instructions for how to dispose of medications in the trash.

The FDA also outlines how to properly dispose of used needles.

If you have additional questions about how to properly dispose of your medications, the risks associated with storing unused medications, and how to properly dispose of used needles, please contact us.
